Types and numbers of schools in Sheffield

Early Years

There are 33 Authority-run children’s centres and nurseries in the city. Of these, 17 are attached to primary schools.

Primary

We have 135 schools offering primary education (included in this figure is one 3-16 through school), all of which are non-selective, mixed sex schools.  

Secondary

There are 24 schools in Sheffield (one of which is aided) offering comprehensive education for young people between the ages of 11 and 16 (included in this figure is one 3-16 through school). All our secondary schools are non-selective, mixed sex schools. Of these, seven have sixth forms.

Special Needs provision

We have 12 special schools in the city, providing specialist care for a range of needs. These are in addition to our 24 Integrated Resource Units, our 4 Inclusion Centres and our Hospital and Home Education Service.

Academies

There are three academy schools in the city. The Sheffield Park and Sheffield Springs Academies are run by the United Learning Trust; Parkwood Academy is run by Edutrust Academies Charitable Trust.
